Well its been quite a while since we as a family has had a break, our last big holiday was a trip to WA (by car) 2 years ago.

Daddy BrownMouse is all about the journey, not the destination so off we head again this year on a good old family road trip to Queensland.

If you would like to join in on the trip I hope to be posting a few photos along the way. I promise that I will try my hardest to keep to my word!

Guitar Girl

Just over 18 months ago, my 6 year old came to me and asked if she could learn guitar.
My biggest concern was that her little fingers could not reach around the neck, but as with most things Lil said " i will try my hardest Mum" and that she did!

12 months ago her teacher said she possessed a very special skills and decided to lead her towards classical guitar. You should see those little fingers pluck those strings.

Here is a photo of my girl playing her guitar at school assembly last week!

There was no nervousness, no mistakes and she played like an angel.

My heart burst with pride!!

Ok, I have to admit that i suck at blogging. I really try, but I everything seems to get on top of me, I get totally disorganized and the poor old blog suffers!

Those of you that have been following me for a while will know about Livvies Kinder Dress its one of my best sellers in my Madeit shop.

I originally made a dress for my friend Bec's daughter nearly 12 months ago for her to wear to kinder, I have made so many since, its hard to keep count.

Goodbye Mack

On the weekend we said goodbye to our sheepdog Mack.
He came to us in his aging years, saved from being put to sleep by his owner that had sold his farm.
Our gorgeous Mack, who had no idea how to be a pet but took to it like an old hand.
Mack died in his sleep Friday, with his head in his paws, lying on his favorite blanket.
We will miss you Mack.....................

This week between finishing an order, school holidays, Easter and visitors I thought that I might put a bit of extra pressure on and teach myself how to crochet.

Now i know alot of you out there can crochet like there is no tomorrow, but I'll tell you what, I am as proud as punch of my effort!

Its a little wonky and tension is most likely crap, but when I showed the recipient of the scarf that it will soon be and the reaction was "wow mum that's ssooooooo cool, I love it" all of that swearing and pulling out of stitches is worth it.

My Creative space has been some where else today.

I have had the fun of being duty Mum @ the littlest

Brown Mouse's Kindergarten.

So I have sculpted with playdoh, painted with water and chalk, cut fruit, cleaned up

cut fruit thrown on the floor and washed the floor cut fruit was thrown on!

I really don't think you want to know about the details of scrubbing little mini toilets!

I was excited yesterday by Keryn at Lillipilli Lane 's blog about her chickens.
It's great to know that I am not the only (sorry Keryn) cook woman who finds it a must to blog about their chickens!

Now I could prattle on for hours about the joy's of having chickens as pets without stating the obvious of fresh eggs, portable composters and Eco-friendly bug control.

BUT when you look into the eyes of my newest hen a Speckled Suffolk named "henny penny" how could you not want chickens wandering around your garden??

The past few days I have been putting labels on school and kinder clothes, lunchboxes, bags and drink bottles I have been thinking about the school holidays that have just about past. This year big brown mouse is in grade 2 and littlest brown mouse is off to 4 year old kinder.

Its been great holidays for the kids, with visitors, swimming in the pool, trips to the beach, fishing and a few days in the big smoke ...... they need to go back to school and kinder for a rest!

Ummmm... I think this fish should be thrown back to the playground!

In my wisdom I decided to buy the kids a SingStar game for our much

ignored PlayStation for Christmas

My kids have never been much for staying inside,
if they not skidding down the dirt driveway

on their bikes, the are climbing trees or
helping their Dad with farmy stuff.

On checking what was available I stated to show my age and bought them ABBA,

Ooo I was excited thinking that I would blitz the kids!

Here we are such a short time after Christmas and

it is playing constantly

They are getting louder and louder to the point I can hear them when I am outside.

and last but certainly not least and much to daddy brown mouses disgust, the smallest male in the house is skipping around singing "Dancing Queen" this makes me laugh like hell,

until today.................................................when he started singing in the supermarket!!!!

In the weeks leading up to christmas my little Japanese linen pouches walked out out of the door.

I have been chasing my tail ever since trying to get some more made and have finally started!

( I wont mention that I have run out of zips......and a public holiday is not a great day to discover this!)

They are a fantastic gift for the girls as they can stash all of their stuff in there, just the thing for the school bag in a few short weeks when school goes back!

Russian Ballet dancer Anna Pavlova it was made in honour for.

Did she like it? did her mum then cook it every year for Christmas?

Christmas in our house starts with the local Christmas Parade
and Christmas market.

This all happened last week for us and after whipping up a crazy

elf outfit (thanks goes to spotlight for the hat),
the littlest Brown mouse was

off on his bike decorated as Rudolf.

He had a fantastic time and hasn't stopped talking about it since!

What did we do without it?

Late last week I had some major issues with my computer.

Unfortunately this Brown Mouse is still

using a rather large, 5 year old desktop PC

that i inherited from the family business.

Don't get me wrong, she has been a good old girl with plenty of

storage for my photos and things,

but I feel that she has been getting a little bit tired (like me)
slower as she gets older (like me)

and is just ready for a holiday (like me)

So last Thursday she just stopped working all together!
No screen, no nothing!

I did what I would usually do, turn her off, turn her on looking any sign of life... again nothing!

After a very restful few days at the repair shop she has come back to be feeling a million bucks!

And everyday I will compliment her and treat her with love because at the end of the day she looked after all of my information and kept my secrets like a girlfriend.

And hopefully I will never, never, never again have to use my daughters postage stamp sized netbook!

My New Thingo

I have always been known as it but of a gadget woman, you name it, if its new, does a specalised job & its all shiny and pretty I WANT IT!

A couple of weeks ago I was wandering through spotlight and I spied these thingos, they found their way into my basket and up until the other day I had not looked at them.

Well let me tell you that they are the best elastic threading thingos I have ever used!

I can't imagine why I have put up with that wonky old safety pin all these years, cursing it every time it came apart, speared my finger & lost my elastic in

the casing of nearly everything I used it for.

I have to tell you, there lots of things that I love about this time of the year.....

There is the days warming up
BBq's in the backyard
Fresh Vegi's from my garden
Swimming with the kids
Day trips to the beach
Christmas decorations twinkling in the shops
The wonderment on my childrens faces when Santa begins to make his appearance

BUT

I have to say the smell of cut hay in the paddocks hearalds

I would like to introduce Doris

Isn't she cute?

I found her in a bargain shop in my little country town and

could not believe my good luck!

When I look at her she makes me feel like she

should be wearing a corset! She's very old world!

Although I pride myself on trying to take a half decent photo,

some of photos I was taking for my site was quite dodgey!

Now with Doris its a breeze!

So here she is dressed up in her finest

These make great Christmas pressies, they fit lots of goodies in them. I'm thinking VERY cute sun-glass cases for that little fashion victim in your household.

I was reading back in my blog posts and see that I promised to introduce you to some of my girls. I am sorry that it has taken me so long. Shhhh....... don't tell them they would be most unimpressed!

Now I cant explain my fascination with all things birds, I just love them and the weirder looking the better...!!

Recently i bought a PDF pattern from an Etsy seller.

It is a girls wrap skirt and although it looks just the the skirt we all remember falling off us when we were kids, this skirt has a secret weapon....... Elastic!!

I would have to say that this one of the nicest skirts that i have ever made, its simple, very easy to adapt for my 7 year old and how unreal does it look?!!!

I have made it from lightweight denim (yes, I have a thing for that at the moment) and teamed it with Heather Ross's Underwater Sisters... OOooo very cute!

I just love, love love the way it looks on my brown mouse.

I will definitely be making more for her and be listing some in my Madeit Shop

Its Hat Weather!

The smallest Brown Mouse spent the day outside with his Dad yesterday and although I did request the application of sunscreen and the wearing of a hat I am not sure this happened.........

SO..... today has been a hat making day for me!

I have cranked out one for every member of the family and a couple spare for the Shop

They are reversible and are made from lightweight denim & cotton, so you have 2 hats in one.

I have to admit that for a start i found them quite fiddly, but after the 5th I was rolling them out like an old pro!

Here's hoping that we are looking forward to a lot more hat wearing weather (with of coarse the application of sunscreen!)

Livies Kinder Dress

My friend was looking for a multipurpose dress for her 3 year old for kinder, something she could iron the Kinder Logo on the front of. It had to be easy wear and cool in the summer.

We came up with the Livie Dress!

It is made of lightweight 100% denim and can be thrown in the washing machine, dry quickly, doesn't show the grime and will grow with the little wearer.

I have listed it on my Madeit page and I will take orders from 6 months to 6 years.

Hello!

Well here I am, after months of thinking about it I have finally started my blog! And what better time to start than in spring, the season of new and beautiful things!

So I suppose that I had better introduce myself............

My name is Kerry and I live on a small farm with my husband (mr brown mouse), our 2 children (the little brown mice) and the ever growing hoard of cats, dogs, chickens, cows, sheep and birds.

We do actually farm sheep and lambs but Mr brown mouse believes that I am taking over the farm with chooks!(i'll introduce you to the girls at a later date)

I have to admit love to sew and make things.......!
I was given a small blue battery operated sewing machine for my 8th Birthday and I swear i was hooked!
Needless to say I had the best dressed barbie dolls in the district!

I have what my husband calls and addiction to fabrics (I am sure some of you will know what he is talking about)and you know I just don't seem to ever have enough in my stash.

In addition to starting my 1st blog, 2 weeks ago I opened up my MadeIt shop
One Brown Mouse and i am overwhelmed by the interest in the things that I am making, I stoked! and i can tell you that the old Husqvarna has been getting a workout lately. I am just happy that people like my creations.
